Western Areas is seeking to recruit a high calibre geologist to manage the on-site production activities at the Forrestania Nickel Project. This is a key role in the optimisation of ore mining and processing from high grade nickel sulphide mines at Forrestania. WSA currently operates the Flying Fox underground mine and the Spotted Quoll open pit mine. The transition from Open Pit to Underground mine at Spotted Quoll will also commence in February 2010.
The Role
- Manage production geologists at the Flying Fox and Spotted Quoll mines.
- Co-ordinate ore haulage to Cosmic Boy Concentrator and liaise with metallurgy department.
- Monthly Reporting and Reconciliation.
- Co-ordinate diamond drilling activities at mines and via Project Geology team.
- Liaise with Exploration Geology staff.
Experience
- 10+ years production experience.
- Previous experience at Chief Geologist level or significant Senior Mine Geologist experience.
- Datamine software skills desirable.
- Database skills desirable

This critical management role is offered on a 9/5, 5/2, 4/3 roster FIFO from Perth, with highly competitive remuneration package commensurate with experience.

In this role you will initially be assisting the Senior Geotechnical Engineer in implementation and monitoring of geotechnical systems, conditions and procedures.
Successful candidates will have:
- A degree in which geotechnical engineering is a significant element
- Previous experience preferred but not a prerequisite
- An interest in mine planning will also be valued.
